Trendlines

Trendlines are diagonal lines drawn on charts connecting successive swing highs or swing lows. They help visualize trend direction, identify potential support/resistance, and spot trend reversals when broken.

How Trendlines Works

An uptrend line connects two or more higher lows, sloping upward. A downtrend line connects two or more lower highs, sloping downward. The more touches a trendline has, the more significant it becomes. Breaks of trendlines often signal trend changes.

5
Can form channels when parallel lines drawn

Trading Signals

Trendlines FAQs

Common questions about trendlines

You need at least two points to draw a trendline, but three or more touches make it more significant. The more times price respects a trendline, the more reliable it becomes as support or resistance.

A trendline break can signal a potential trend change. For it to be significant, look for a close beyond the trendline (not just a wick) and ideally confirmation with volume. Minor breaks can be false signals.

Connect clear swing points (highs or lows). For uptrends, connect swing lows. For downtrends, connect swing highs. Use the bodies or wicks consistently. Don't force a line - if it doesn't fit naturally, it's not valid.
